2018 Championships

The full and final results for the 2018 Ladies Championships are available here. Well done to all 34 girls who finished the four rounds, a great achievement by you all. Especially those who might not have played their best golf but kept going – you know who you are (Janine, Penny, Kathy and others) – there is always next year. Shown here, with big smiles on their faces, are our 3 new Ladies Club Champions. In A Grade Joanie Milton, in B Grade Kathy McDonnell and in C Grade Margaret King. The Nett winners were in A Grade Jan Thomas, in B Grade Del  Hartfiel and in C Grade Amanda Elder. Well played girls.

A Grade

The A Grade Championship was to and fro for much of the first 9 holes but eventually Joanie Milton pulled away to claim the title by 5 shots from second placed Michelle Marsden. Our defending Champion Kathy Nelson recovered from her “howler”  to post a respectable 85, a ten shot improvement from round 3, to finish 3rd. Joanie has not won this event for 7 years and people were beginning to wonder if she ever would again, but with her trusty wooden putter and only 1 shank for the whole round she edged away from Michelle, who unusually for her, spent too much time in the trees. Kathy played with freedom as she realized she had no chance of winning and they were accompanied in the seeded group by young Jordan Ulcoq who celebrated her 15th birthday with a display of very relaxed golf. A future champion for sure. Well done to the 13 ladies who finished all four rounds in A Grade. Pat McKewen has been issued with a one month ban (suspended) from having her photo on the website for nearly taking the photographers head off on the 17th – I’m glad you found the ball Pat.

B Grade

The B Grade Championship was an extremely tight affair with Kathy McDonnell finally prevailing over Jan Fisher by a single shot. Kathy broke 100 to post a title winning 97 in the final round while Jan had a respectable 101 but must be regretting her tee shot into the water on the 14th. Chris Algie posted a round 100 to secure 3rd place by a comfortable 8 shots. Congratulations to the 15 ladies in B Grade who completed all four rounds.

Nett Competitions

The Nett championships proved to be as keenly contested as the gross. In A Grade Jan Thomas (301) comfortably collected the winners prize by 7 shots from early starter Julie Burton. Jan was one of only two ladies to post 4 nett scores in the 70’s. Julie, playing early, to avoid the camera pipped Captain Pat McKewen by a single stroke. In B Grade Del Hartfiel (305) also posted 4 rounds in the 70’s showing her consistency. She edged ahead of runner up Robyn Warren by 3 shots. In C Grade Amanda Elder claimed the title by a clear 20 shots from first time Championships competitor runner up Sallie Wake.

The Trials And Tribulations Of Golf (Round 4)

Who wants to be in the middle of the fairway and on the green in regulation on every hole ? How boring would that be. Our girls made full use of the whole course during Round 4 on this year’s Championships. You’ve got to play with a smile !!!!

Who put that tree there ? Where is the chainsaw ?!!

What a great bunker shot. Harvey taught me well !!!!

Yes Michelle, that is your ball. And yes you did hit it there!!!

Oh, I wish I was at home relaxing with a glass of wine.

Why couldn’t I play this shot in the bunker on the 12th. Remember you’re a Lady Pen!!

I may have hit it in the water, but at least I got my ball back !!!

You’re lucky Christine, I hit 2 in the water and didn’t find either of them !!

Great shot Jan, but you shouldn’t have been in there in the first place!!

You didn’t believe me? Here’s proof of “THAT” wooden putter!!

That’s a dollar in the swear box Janine. You must talk nicely to your ball.

Pat, if only you could aim at greens like you aim at photographers!!!

Why cant I be as good a player as my sister is ?
