Vet’s golf as we know it today commenced in the 1980’s and is administered by the Australian Veteran Golf Association through State and District bodies. There are over eight thousand Queensland Members in the 23 districts, which includes Wide Bay. Our area contains 17 clubs with Bargara having in excess of 270 members. Veteran golf provides a unique opportunity for men and women to enjoy each others company at a reasonable cost and on a regular basis. Bargara Vets play most Tuesdays during the calendar year and conduct a full fixture list of ‘open’ and ‘club’ events during the season. Additionally, Bargara has hosted a number of State and Regional Championship events in recent times. We welcome visitors at all times of the year.
Committee News (August)
Welcome to August’s Vets Committee News. The Spring Carnival at Bargara on the 4th & 5th of September is quickly approaching. At this stage we have about 150+ players registered for this competition. Entries for this carnival closed on 16th August. The Caddy Shack will be open on these two days for anyone wishing to purchase lunch, drinks or nibbles. Tea and coffee will be available also for early players.
The Bargara Vets have donated $7000 to the club for sprinklers on a fairway – Larry has spoken to Kevin our greenkeeper and the Course Committee and we think it beneficial to let them decide on which fairway this money should be used.
The Committee has spoken to Shawline Embroidery regarding our green shirts. The green we currently use is to be discontinued and that shade of green will not be available any longer. However after speaking with Shawline it appears there are still quite a number of our current shirts available in all sizes but this could change at any time though. The Committee will raise this matter at our Annual General Meeting for discussion on the way forward with our shirts. Hopefully we will have some samples to show everyone at the AGM. If you have any constructive ideas or suggestions regarding this or any other Vets golfing matter please contact a member of our Committee.
