Vet’s golf as we know it today commenced in the 1980’s and is administered by the Australian Veteran Golf Association through State and District bodies. There are over eight thousand Queensland Members in the 23 districts, which includes Wide Bay. Our area contains 17 clubs with Bargara having in excess of 270 members. Veteran golf provides a unique opportunity for men and women to enjoy each others company at a reasonable cost and on a regular basis. Bargara Vets play most Tuesdays during the calendar year and conduct a full fixture list of ‘open’ and ‘club’ events during the season. Additionally, Bargara has hosted a number of State and Regional Championship events in recent times. We welcome visitors at all times of the year.
February Monthly Medal
BARGMARY Shield Round 1
Playing away on a fair and challenging Maryborough course there were no multiple 40+ points scores by our Bargara players that seems to be the norm on our home course these days. Our only winner on the day was Kay Craig, well done Kay. Bargara trail Maryborough 575-516 after the first round with the second round to be played on home soil on Tuesday March the 19th.
If Larry had any hair it would be much greyer after having to sort out more issues with the 4BBB card system, there is a bonus to having no hair Larry. Well done to our (eventual) winners in the Ladies event Leanne Spruce and Janine Smith with 48 points and in the mixed event husband and wife team Dave and Margaret King (46 Points). Smile Dave ! Vets should note that there is no competition at Bargara next Tuesday the 12th because of greens coring. There is the BARGMARY Shield being played at Maryborough with a 9.30AM shotgun start. If you wish to play please contact Larry or Ian. Also, Vets should be aware that there is the Monthly Medal Competition on Tuesday February the 19th however the Clubhouse is CLOSED due to essential maintenance work, so there will be no Presentation. We will be asking if the Caddy Shack can be opened so we can at least enjoy a cold beer after our round. Results will be posted on the website as soon as possible.

2019 Vets Christmas Party And Presentation
The Vets Christmas Party and Presentation held on Monday evening was a great success, the room was packed and everybody had a good time. Reports of a few sore heads the following morning were common (Chippy!). Thanks to our Vets Committee who organised a great evening and congratulations to Ian and Larry for their presenting of all the awards. Many awards were handed out, many photographs of winners were taken but once the photos with closed eyes (Kerri), looking away (Garry Craig), looking like a rabbit in headlights (Ross) and various other misdemeanours were omitted I’ve managed to whittle it down to 16 great photos of our winners throughout the year. 2018 has again proved to be a great year for Bargara Vets and I’m sure, with our new Committee in place, 2019 will mirror this year’s success and more. The Vets Committee wish all our Vets a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you for opening day in January 2019 when all those New Year’s resolutions will be put to the test.
Medal Of Medals / November Monthly Medal
The final Monthly Medal of the year combined with the Medal Of Medal finals made for some really close encounters not of the third kind. In the Men’s D1 the winner was decided not only on countback, but it was so close it went to countback of the last 3 holes. Chris Wake just pipping Des Ryan for the Medal of Medals and Monthly Medal prize with Nett 66. In the Men’s D2 Paul O’Neill came in with an incredible Nett 60 to win both the Medal of Medals and the Monthly Medal. D3 saw Michael Anderson claim the Medal of Medals with a Nett 67 and Geoff Irwin take the Monthly Medal prize with a Nett 64. D4 Medal Of Medals was claimed by Alan Mansfield with a Nett 69, the daily prize going to Robert Allan with a great score of Nett 61. The Ladies also produced some close finishes. In D1 Bernie Fitzgerald took both titles with a Nett 69 edging out Julie Brown by 1. Janine Smith, in D2, took the Medal of Medals title with a Nett 70 but was beaten by countback in the Monthly Medal comp by Robyn Warren. Finally, in D3 Sandy Dawson produced a Nett 69 to take the Medal of Medals prize with the Monthly Medal going to Babs Behs with a Nett 67. The Christmas Party / Presentation Night is December the 10th, tables are filling up fast, so book your spot now to see all our winners collect their prizes and celebrate Christmas with all your Veteran golfing playing pals.
Trivia Corner Teaser
This one is a cracker. Married for 50+ years and both members of our Golf Club for 11 years. Both our blushing bride and groom have played prominent roles within the Club over the past few years. I would never have got this from the bride but the groom gave it away for me.
