Vet’s golf as we know it today commenced in the 1980’s and is administered by the Australian Veteran Golf Association through State and District bodies. There are over eight thousand Queensland Members in the 23 districts, which includes Wide Bay. Our area contains 17 clubs with Bargara having in excess of 270 members. Veteran golf provides a unique opportunity for men and women to enjoy each others company at a reasonable cost and on a regular basis. Bargara Vets play most Tuesdays during the calendar year and conduct a full fixture list of ‘open’ and ‘club’ events during the season. Additionally, Bargara has hosted a number of State and Regional Championship events in recent times. We welcome visitors at all times of the year.
Committee News (July)
Firstly, and most importantly is your Scorecard.
• If you don’t finish your round for any reason, please do NOT put your card through the scanner. Please either return your card to the office or place it in the drawers under the terminals.
• Cards must be entered within 15 MINUTES of completion of your round. It is not the Vets Committee’s responsibility to chase people up for their cards. If no card is returned you will be disqualified.
• Please ensure you save your score after you have scanned it. You MUST ensure you check to see the scanned results agree with your cards before leaving the terminal. Incorrect cards could also incur disqualification.
• The presentation can be delayed by at least 15 minutes due to the problems that arise with people either not checking or not returning their scorecards.
Our AGM is to be held on the 29th October and some of our long-term Committee Members will be retiring. Please consider giving a little back to our Club and join our committed and happy band of volunteers.
The annual Christmas Party will be held on the 9th of December.

Stableford – 13th August
Mixed Aggregate Championships Round 2
Congratulations to the extremely popular Owen and Marion May who won the inaugural Vets Mixed Agg Championships with an impressive total of 154 pts. Owen(40) and Marion(38), who also took out Ladies Div 3, had a 16 point swing to win by 10 from Bob and Robyn Warren. Bob and Robyn, who scored an excellent combined 82 in round 1, had the proverbial howler in round 2 mustering only 62 pts. It was enough though, as they clinched runners up spot by 1. What a difference a week in golf makes.

Bungara Shield Round 2
Captain Larry Lipscombe led an invasion of Bargara Vets golfers across to Bundaberg to do battle in the 2nd Round of the Bungara Shield. 66 Bargara Vets made the short journey to try and seal a win, and retain the shield, leading after the 1st round by 86 points. A close defeat by 17 points, meant Bargara won by a whopping 69 points overall. Showing his leadership, the Skip hit a delightful 5-iron into the short Par 3 8th only to see it drop in the hole to record the 2nd hole-in-one of his long trophy-filled golfing career.
Vets On Tour (Maryborough)
A hardcore of our nomadic Vets travelled down to Maryborough for the Vets Open Carnival 2-day event, held on the 8th and 9th of July. Our superstar of the event was Chris Bloem who took out the prize for the overall Division 2 Winner, winning a GPS, which I am reliably informed, was well timed as it replaced the one she put in the washing machine recently!! Also collecting prizes were Kathy McDonnell who finished runner up in the Division 1 overall competition, President Chippy Smallwood winning the Day 1 Division 3 event – looking very pleased with himself here – and Don McKewen who triumphed in the Day 2 Div 3 event. Don and the crew celebrated their victories, and Don’s birthday, with a few quiet glasses of wine afterwards. Well done to all of you.
Happy 90th Birthday
Most of us would be happy to still be breathing at the age of 90, but this young lady is also playing golf on a regular basis. Many congratulations June on your 90th birthday. only 10 to go 🙂
