Vet’s golf as we know it today commenced in the 1980’s and is administered by the Australian Veteran Golf Association through State and District bodies. There are over eight thousand Queensland Members in the 23 districts, which includes Wide Bay. Our area contains 17 clubs with Bargara having in excess of 270 members. Veteran golf provides a unique opportunity for men and women to enjoy each others company at a reasonable cost and on a regular basis. Bargara Vets play most Tuesdays during the calendar year and conduct a full fixture list of ‘open’ and ‘club’ events during the season. Additionally, Bargara has hosted a number of State and Regional Championship events in recent times. We welcome visitors at all times of the year.

4BBB Championships Round 2
Goodbye Peter and Joyce
It was a very sad day for the Bargara Vets with Peter Drummond playing his last ever Vets round of golf on Tuesday. Accompanied, as always, by his beautiful wife Joyce, Peter has been a shining light on a Tuesday on a regular basis for many, many years. Peter retires as a Vets Champion being the current holder of the Vets 4BBB Championship. Peter is more than a champion though, he plays golf as it should be played, enjoying every moment out on the course. Personally, it has been a pleasure knowing and playing golf with Peter and Joyce over the past few years and it was great to see Peter sign off with a great round of 38 points. Always playing with a smile of his face, he and Joyce will be sorely missed. We still hope they will pop in to visit us every now and then.
Many thanks to all the Vets who completed the 3-question survey taken by Jill Serra on Tuesday the 28th. Results indicate that 75% of our Vets visit the Vets webpage on a weekly or monthly basis. Therefore, we will continue to administer our webpage to provide as much up-to-date photos, results and information as possible, using the webpage to communicate with our members for all Vets golfing matters. All the people questioned indicated they read the quarterly publication Voice of the Vets in one format or another. With regards to the Vets shirts, over 60% of those who indicated a preference wanted to stay with the traditional green shirts instead of adopting the new Club shirts. The Vets Committee has gained some useful information from this survey and we will continue to talk to our members to enable us to serve you better as a Committee.

May Monthly Medal
Congratulations to Wendy Sturwohld (Nett 70) winner of the Ladies Div 1 and Gary Craig (Nett 66) winners of the Men’s Div 2 who were present to pick up their May Monthly Medal much-sort-after wine glasses. The big surprise of the day was not Dickie Mason winning the Men’s Division 3 section but the fact he was not up the bar to pick up his prize. Come on Dickie you’ve a reputation to uphold. Congratulations to all our winners who are listed on the Golf Results webpage.
Vets On Tour (Kingaroy)
Our hardy Vets travelling golfers found themselves in Kingaroy this week on their jaunt round south Queensland. If only our politicians travelled as much!! Plenty of winners over the various competitions including Jill and Judy in the 4BBB, Adrian and Alan also in the 4BBB, Chris and Kristine as runners up in the 4BBB, Greg Gallagher as a runner up in the 4BBB comp and John and Bill also runners up in the 4BBB.
Vets On Tour March 2019
Wednesday in Mundubbera : Looks like Ross Sturwohld went tearing out the blocks and partied a little too hard on the red wine on the tour party’s first night in Gayndah and Chris Bloem paced herself nicely. Wednesday in Mundubbera sees a role reversal with Chris enjoying a nice glass of ice cold Chardy while Ross is relegated to coffee. Hare and the tortoise Ross, hare and the tortoise !! It was deja vu on the golf course with both Kathy McDonnell and John Bloem, with a new lease of life after his return from injury, again taking home the prizes plus a 41 point win by John Archibald. Not sure how skint they are in Mundubbera but John looks like he won a recycled plastic bag in the photo I was sent. I’m sure his round was worth more than that. Landscape photos please Jill!! Remember the rest of you, golf comes first beer comes later!!!
Tuesday in Gayndah : Our Vets took off on their annual pilgrimage to Gayndah and Mundubbera this week, and according to Peter Landon that meant they would all be talking Braille by the end of each evening. Well, at least they are enjoying themselves – so is Adrian, honest!! We even sent along our own website Vets photographer to capture those precious moments. The first day at Gayndah on Tuesday was a hot one, plenty of cold refreshments required afterwards. Wednesday sees our touring gang move on to Mundubbera for another golfing feast. Somehow Chippy won the longest drive, it must have been on a dog leg right. Well done to Kath and John who managed to pick up winners prizes.
Happy 90th Birthday
Most of us would be happy to still be breathing at the age of 90, but this young lady is also playing golf on a regular basis. Many congratulations June on your 90th birthday. only 10 to go 🙂
